The Crushing Circle Walk Castleton

The Crushing Circle Walk – This is an easy 4 mile walk, with a stop at Treak Cliff Cavern for refreshments or a tour down the cave.Walking out of door, go left and walk out straight out of the village.  Walk past the left turning up to Winnats Pass and keep to the path by the road until Dunscar Farm. Here turn right then immediately left onto private road for walkers only.

You will reach a little cottage at the end of the private path where you look ahead and go up the steps to your left. This will lead you to the crushing circle which dates back 1823 and Odin Mine which you will find across the road; one of the oldest documented mines in Derbyshire and reported to be one of the oldest lead mines in England! The crushing circle was worked for lead in which a horse would drive the gritstone circle to crush the ore ready to be transported to Bradwell to be smelted.

To get back to the village, you can take the road down past Treak Cliff Cavern to give you the option to pop in and explore!
